Boat Design

PROJECT BRIEF:

In groups of five,  design and model a boat from a partially completed 12 metre boat hull. Through the design process, communicate and test aspects of structure, function, materiality, form, and human factors in relationship to objects and people.

Wavelength is an elegant cruiser for comfortable weekend getaways. I was able to significantly improve my Rhinoceros 3D skills through this project.

Ideation sketches

Started experimenting with boat shapes and interior layouts before deciding as a team that we wanted to design a weekend cruiser.

Creating and understanding personas

We created personas to understand the interior styles we needed to achieve for a variety of users. Based on research, we decided to  use light colours and a Scandinavian-styled interior to attain a spacious feel.

Development

Interior development

I focused on designing the interior of the lower deck. My main goal was to create more space by adding space-saving furniture and making utilizing the corners in a room.

CAD

This project strengthened my CAD abilities because I had to CAD a range of objects of different shapes and sizes. We also added models of 1st percentile woman and 99th percentile man to determine the right size of all the rooms and objects.
